About Change Commerce

What is Change Commerce®?

Change Commerce® technology allows retailers to donate a minimum of 1% of the total purchase price to a Change Commerce® approved charity of the customer’s choice upon checkout. Our program helps connect retailers and charities so that every time a customer purchases something from one of our online retailer partners, the customer automatically gets to give back to a cause they care most about!

How does it work?

We’ve partnered with retailers who would like to donate a minimum 1% of total purchases to charities of their customers choice each time they shop online. We’ve integrated with the Charity Navigator database in order to bring retailers more than one million approved charities to choose for their customers. Each retailer highlights featured charities as suggestions for shoppers right on their checkout page.  The best part is that this is free for both customers and charities!

How much will my charity earn?

With Change Commerce®, a minimum 1% of every pre-tax purchase goes to a charity of the customer’s choosing–making everyone feel a little bit better about making an impact in the world.

What does it take to be eligible?

The only eligibility requirements are that each organization must be a 501c3 registered Charity with the IRS, and they must be registered with our partner, Charity Navigator.

Are there any costs associated with Change Commerce®?

There are no costs involved for Change Commerce® shoppers or any organizations that sign up to receive donations. The retailers who partner with the Change Commerce® program cover any associated program costs.

Is every charity listed on Change Commerce®?

Currently, we work with a partner database which has over 1.4 million registered charities.  Every organization we work with must be registered with our partner, Charity Navigator, in order to qualify. Organizations that are not listed on Charity Navigator must sign up before joining the Change Commerce® program.

ShoppingGives Program Details

ShoppingGives.com and the Change Commerce® program are services and technology operated by Niche Interactive Media, Inc. d/b/a ShoppingGives that lets ShoppingGives turn everyday shopping into fundraising by offering up to 40% cash back donations on eligible purchases from over 750 partnered stores. ShoppingGives also runs Change Commerce®, a technology platform that connects retailers, customers, and nonprofits to create life-changing social impact by enabling retailers to donate a percentage of each purchase to a nonprofit that the customer selects.

Purchases Eligible for Donations

Retailers partnered through the Change Commerce® program have agreed to donate a specified percentage of eligible sales at time of purchase from partner websites. If a purchase is eligible for a percentage donation on partner website, then, at time of purchase a user interface Change Commerce® program widget, displaying the “Change Commerce® powered by ShoppingGives” logo, will appear with the specified percentage donation for that specific purchase.

The return period for the partner merchandise purchased has to lapse before funds are donated.

Managing your ShoppingGives Account

You can manage your purchases and other account information on https://shoppinggives.com using a single account.

About Choosing a Charitable Organization to Support

At checkout, you will be prompted to select a charitable organization to receive donations from eligible purchases.  This donation is facilitated by ShoppingGives Foundation and powered by ShoppingGives program: Change Commerce®.

Once $25 is raised for one particular charity, ShoppingGives will notify the charity. There must be a minimum of $25 raised for each individual charity in order for them to receive a donation. If $25 is not raised, after 12 months, then ShoppingGives Foundation has the right to change the allocation of where the donation goes to another eligible charity.

You can choose from almost one million 501(c)(3) public charitable organizations that are registered and in good standing with the IRS (as provided to ShoppingGives Foundation and ShoppingGives by Charity Navigator, a 501(c)(3)).

See Eligible Charitable Organizations below for more information regarding organization eligibility. In order to receive donations, each eligible charitable organization must register with the ShoppingGives program and provide the information necessary for us to send them donations. You can even select eligible charitable organizations that have not yet registered to receive donations from the ShoppingGives program and we will contact your chosen organization to ask them to register to receive donations from ShoppingGives. If your selected organization becomes ineligible or does not register for the ShoppingGives program, see our process below regarding Charitable Organizations that Do Not Register.

Eligible Charitable Organizations

Organizations must be public charitable organizations that are registered and in good standing with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) to be eligible to participate. Eligible charitable organizations must also be located in one of the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia. Organizations that engage in, support, encourage, or promote intolerance, hate, terrorism, violence, money laundering, or other illegal activities are not eligible to participate. ShoppingGives relies on the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control as well as certain other organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, for example, to determine which organizations fall into these groups. ShoppingGives, in its sole discretion, however, is responsible for determining which organizations are eligible. Charitable organizations must also adhere to the ShoppingGives Participation Agreement to maintain eligibility. Charitable organizations may choose not to participate in ShoppingGives at any time. Although we aim to include only charitable organizations that are in good standing and do not engage in any of the activities described above, we cannot guarantee the good standing and/or conduct of any charitable organization.

There must be a minimum of $25 raised for each individual charity in order for them to receive a donation. If $25 is not raised, after 12 months, then ShoppingGives Foundation has the right to change the allocation of where the donation goes to another eligible charity.

Charitable Organizations that Do Not Register

If your selected charitable organization does not complete registration, ShoppingGives will still track donations accrued in each calendar quarter for that organization. Once you make an eligible purchase at on one of our partner websites, your selected charitable organization has (4) four full calendar quarters to complete registration. If the charitable organization does not complete registration by the end of the fourth full quarter after your first eligible purchase, ShoppingGives Foundation will select a new charitable organization to receive that donation.

Charitable Organizations that Become Ineligible

These occurrences are relatively rare. If your selected charitable organization becomes ineligible due to a change in IRS standing or another violation of the program participation agreement, and you have registered with ShoppingGives, ShoppingGives Foundation will select a new charitable organization to receive that donation. For changes in IRS standing, we provide organizations with a grace period to continue to accrue donations while they re-establish their tax status.  For all other violations of the Participation Agreement, you will be notified no later than the quarter after such disqualification.

Charitable Organizations that Request to be Removed from the Program

Charities that opt out of participation in the program are treated as ineligible organization for reallocation purposes.

Featured Charities

From time to time we may work directly with our partners to highlight one or more charitable organizations from the total list of eligible organizations. These may be organizations that best align with the partner or that the partner is already working with, and these may change over time. We do this to make it easier for customers to choose an organization to support from the almost one million available, but we do not endorse any particular organization or the causes they support.

Changing Your Charitable Organization (Coming Spring 2018)

On the ShoppingGives website, you are welcome to change the charitable organization you want to support at any time. This functionality is not supported on partner websites, however. If you make a change, only ShoppingGives purchases after the change will accrue donations for your newly selected charitable organization. Your change will not affect ShoppingGives purchases made prior to the change. To change your charitable organization, sign in to https://shoppinggives.com on your desktop or mobile phone browser. From your desktop or mobile, simply select “My Causes” and updated your “Favorite Cause”.

Charitable Organizations that Do Not Register

If your selected charitable organization does not complete registration, Shopping.Gives will still track donations accrued in each calendar quarter for that organization. Once you make an eligible purchase at shoppinggives.com or one of our partner websites, your selected charitable organization has (4) four full calendar quarters to complete registration. If the charitable organization does not complete registration by the end of the fourth full quarter after your first eligible purchase, ShoppingGives Foundation will select a new charitable organization to receive that donation.

For Representatives of Charitable Organizations

If you represent a charitable organization, go to resources.shoppinggives.com/change-commerce/charities to learn more about registering your organization to receive donations.

About the Donation Amount

Participating retailers will donate a minimum of 1% of the purchase price from your eligible purchases to the eligible charitable organization of your choice.  The purchase price for each item is the sale price, excluding shipping, handling, gift-wrapping fees, taxes, and service charges, and less any rebates, returns, and bad debt.

Donations are not made for products that are returned.

The amount that the ShoppingGives Foundation donates as a result of your any purchase is not tax deductible by you. If you have any questions about your tax situation, you should contact your tax advisor.

100% of the donation amount generated from your eligible purchase on our partner websites will be donated. ShoppingGives retains a small additional amount of the purchase total for processing fees and other services provided. Through Change Commerce®, our proprietary technology, a minimum of 1% is transferred from our partner websites to ShoppingGives, which then transfers all donation amounts to the ShoppingGives Foundation. The donation amounts generated by your purchases are combined with the donation amounts from all other customers that selected the same organization, and each quarter ShoppingGives Foundation makes donations to registered charitable organizations. Donations are generally transferred approximately 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter.

About the ShoppingGives Foundation

The ShoppingGives Foundation is a private 501(c)(3) foundation created by ShoppingGives to administer the ShoppingGives program. All donation amounts generated by the ShoppingGives Program are remitted to the ShoppingGives Foundation. In turn, the ShoppingGives Foundation donates those amounts to the charitable organizations selected by both our and our partner’s customers through our Change Commerce® technology.  You may not make a direct donation to the ShoppingGives Foundation. The only way to support your charitable organization through the ShoppingGives Foundation is to shop on one of our or our partner websites.

About Shopping on ShoppingGives

If you shop on ShoppingGives or one of our partner websites using an internet browser on your desktop or laptop computer, your mobile phone, or your tablet, then your purchases of eligible products (marked “eligible for ShoppingGives donation” on the detail pages) will result in donations.
